There is a ‘huge chance’ of Steven Bergwijn leaving Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.
At least, that’s the view of Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has revealed that the Netherlands international wants to leave North London in search of first-team football.
The 24-year-old has started only four Premier League games this season – and only one of them since September.
Romano told his Here We Go podcast: “Bergwijn has chances to leave the club – huge chance because he wants to be a regular starter and Tottenham have many players in this position.”
Is Steven Bergwijn leaving Tottenham Hotspur?
In all likelyhood, the answer is yes.
The former PSV Eindhoven winger admitted earlier in May that leaving North London this summer was a distinct possibility, due to his lack of game time.
Bergwijn had a brilliant start to the season under former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, starting their first three Premier League games of the campaign – all victories.
However, the Dutchman soon fell out of favour under Nuno but The Athletic has reported in the past that the winger didn’t like Spurs’ decision to get rid of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, who left in early November.
Aside from that, yes a departure from Tottenham is not only probable, but sensible.
It’s abundantly clear that Antonio Conte has zero long-term vision for Bergwijn at Hotspur Way and with the summer transfer window opening soon, leaving makes complete sense.
