Speaking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Express journalist Ryan Taylor has been discussing Spurs’ transfer plans and Nordi Mukiele.
Spurs have been linked with Mukiele in the past, and according to Taylor, the north London club could be back in for the RB Leipzig defender if they don’t manage to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.
A deal to bring Spence to north London is thought to be close, but, as we should all know by now, nothing is set in stone until a contract is signed.
If Spurs somehow manage to fail to land Spence, Taylor reckons that Mukiele could be targeted.
What’s been said?
Taylor was asked about alternatives to Spence.
“If that deal doesn’t get over the line are Spurs looking at any other right-backs do you know?” The journalist was asked.
“There was Nordi Mukiele at Leipzig who they have looked at in the past, but I would say that he’s more likely to feature as a right centre-back, he’s not really a wing-back as such. He has played at right-back for Leipzig, but he usually plays in a back four. Mukiele is one that they’d probably look at, he has been targeted previously under Jose Mourinho,” Taylor said.

Better than Spence?
Tottenham view Mukiele as an alternative to Spence, but there’s a reasonable argument to make that the Leipzig man is actually better than the 21-year-old.
Yes, they’re different players and Mukiele is much more of a defender than he is a wing-back, but he’s a Champions League player with one cap for France, compared to Spence who has only ever played football at Championship level.
Of course, there’s the fact that Spence suits Conte’s system and the added bonus of the Boro man being a homegrown player, but there is certainly a strong argument to make that Mukiele is the better player.
