Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their links to Gennaro Gattuso.

Spurs were apparently in talks with Gattuso on Wednesday evening, with a deal reportedly close to being reach, but on Thursday morning the move appeared to be called off, meaning the Italian won’t be coming to Tottenham.

Apparently, Spurs decided to renege on the deal because of a negative fan reaction regarding some controversial comments the 43-year-old made a number of years ago.

Castles claims that despite this reaction, Spurs’ new Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, still believes he can convince Levy to appoint Gattuso.

What’s been said?

Castles shared his insight into the Gattuso situation at Tottenham.

“The story leaked from Italy back into England and you had the fan reaction with the social media campaign #NoToGattuso, that forced Levy to respond and call a halt to the agreement with Gattuso, saying that it would be impossible because of the fans’ reaction to go ahead with this appointment. There have been attempts to fix this situation, it has been suggested to Levy and Tottenham that Gattuso could publicly apologise for those statements that were made several years ago, Tottenham did not accept that,” Castles said,

“I’m also told that Fabio Paratici still believes that there is a possibility that he can talk Levy around in this, and I think that gives you an indication that Paratici hasn’t done his homework on his new boss, because when Levy makes a decision he doesn’t change his mind very often.”

Not going to happen

As Castles says, Paratici faces an almost impossible task when it comes to convincing Levy to change his mind.

Usually, Daniel Levy’s stubbornness is seen as a negative, but on this occasion, it seems as though it’s a good thing.

Indeed, Gattuso wouldn’t be a good fit at Tottenham, and the fan reaction to those rumours on Wednesday tells you all you need to know about how his appointment would go down.

We’d be very surprised if Levy does a U-turn on this, even if Paratici believes he can change his mind.
