Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Youri Tielemans’ situation this summer.
It was reported months ago that the Belgian would be leaving Leicester City this summer, but here we are on the opening day of the Premier League season and he’s still with the Foxes.
According to Jacobs, a move could still be on the cards for Tielemans, and he reckons that a late bid from Newcastle United is a possibility.
Interestingly, Jacobs says that this situation is actually in Arsenal’s control, stating that if the Gunners bid for the player, they will get him.
What’s been said?
The journalist shared what he knows about Tielemans.
“Tielemans they accept that if a fair offer comes in they will sell him because of the player’s contract situation and they know that he ideally doesn’t want to sign a new deal. Tielemans wants his future resolved ASAP, still no bids at the moment, but a few clubs have tried to work out the financials. Arsenal haven’t moved yet, but it’s still very possible,” Jacobs said.
“There’s no urgency for these clubs to move because until one bids the other interested clubs don’t have to consider it. It’s in Arsenal’s control, if Arsenal bid and agree a fee Tielemans will join Arsenal regardless of what any other club do. If Arsenal don’t bid it’s more of an open race and that’s where Manchester United could come in as a De Jong backup or even a late bid from Newcastle could be something we see.”

Door could be open
Newcastle will only be able to go in for Tielemans if Arsenal don’t, but that door could well be open come the end of the window.
The Gunners have already added Oleksandr Zinchenko to their squad, and he can play a more than competent role in the midfield.
The north London outfit have already spent big this summer, and while we know they’ve long held an interest in Tielemans, there’s a reason they’ve not signed him yet.
Newcastle may well get the chance to move for the 25-year-old.
