Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Joe Rodon is one of the names on Newcastle’s list of centre-back targets this month.
The Spurs defender is reportedly a player the north London club would be willing to sell for £20m, and one potential destination for him is St James’ Park.
Indeed, Newcastle reportedly have Rodon on their list of targets.
What’s Castles said about Rodon?
The journalist shared what he knows about the Magpies’ centre-back hunt.
“Diego Carlos of Sevilla was their second choice at centre-back, but Sevilla’s Sporting Director, Monchi, has come out and said that the fee Newcastle got to for the defender wasn’t acceptable at this point in the window. There are a number of other players they have been looking at on their centre-back list. Some of the names have been mentioned to me. Joe Rodon at Tottenham, I think it would be difficult to see him as the experienced, ready-made centre-back that they were looking for when they entered this window,” Castles said.

Not good enough
Rodon would be a £20m defensive signing, but it’s hard to really argue that he’d be any better than what Newcastle already have.
He’s barely played any Premier League football, and while he was good in the Championship, the same can be said of club captain Jamaal Lascelles.
Meanwhile, Fabian Schar is an experienced international with plenty of Premier League games under his belt.
Newcastle certainly need a new defender, but it’s hard to really see Rodon being the player who will propel them to the next level.
