Liverpool remain ‘very interested’ in signing Paris Saint-Germain marksman Kylian Mbappe, according to Mohamed Bouhafsi.

The Reds have been tentatively linked with a stunning move for the France international since the turn of the year.

Duncan Castles reported in March that Mbappe has told friends that he would favour a move to Liverpool.

With Mbappe’s PSG contract coming to an end next summer, speculation is rife that he may be sold this summer.

And Bouhafsi told RMC Sport that the Anfield club are definitely keen on the 22-year-old.

Real Madrid are a big rival to Liverpool in regards to Mbappe and the journalist added that the Spanish giants have been saving ‘some funds’ for a big-money swoop.

He said: “Outside of PSG, there are potentially two clubs. We are talking about Real Madrid, who have been keeping back some funds for Kylian Mbappé for several seasons now. And Liverpool, Liverpool who have not necessarily spent loads in recent years, Liverpool who are very interested by the idea too of signing Kylian Mbappé.”

If Liverpool get this done, it would undoubtedly be for a club-record fee.

Their current record signing remains Virgil van Dijk following his £75 million move from Southampton in January of 2018.

But Guillem Balague revealed in April that the Ligue 1 outfit would want £156 million for the player, even with one year left on his existing deal.

Any deal for Mbappe would well and truly obliterate Liverpool’s transfer record at the moment and in the current climate, with the Merseysiders’ Champions League place uncertain and the club’s loss of almost £50 million recently, it seems unlikely to materialise.
