According to Italian journalist Romero Agresti, Liverpool have offered Bayern Munich’s David Alaba a contract worth £9 million-a-year.

That works out at around £175,000-a-week for the versatile defender.

The journalist was speaking during a transfer show on Twitch, where he made the big revelation.

Agresti’s news comes after Fabrizio Romano wrote that Real Madrid were leading the race for Alaba in the Guardian.

However, Romano did concede that Liverpool were pushing hard to sign the Austria international.

If Agresti’s news is true, then the Bayern Munich No.27 would immediately become one of Liverpool’s highest earners.

According to Spotrac, only Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara earn more than the £175,000-a-week mentioned by Agresti.

In our view, that could potentially cause issues in the dressing room, as the likes of Sadio Mane might feel they deserve a pay rise.

However, Alaba would be more than worth it.

The 28-year-old is one of the most decorated players around.

He’s won nine Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal cups and two Champions Leagues, among many more pieces of silverware.

Alaba is also a set-piece specialist.

As Transfermarkt shows, he has netted ten freekicks throughout his career.

He is a fantastic technician, and one who can also operate at centre-back, left-back or centre-midfield.

Pep Guardiola even told Sport1 that Alaba’s versatility made him a ‘God’ in his eyes.
