Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Barcelona starlet Gavi.

The Spanish midfielder looks like one of the next big stars in world football, but with less than 12 months remaining on his Barcelona contract, his future is up in the air.

Gavi was widely expected to sign his new deal earlier this summer, but there has been a hold-up, and according to Bailey, the player isn’t very happy with certain situations.

This has led to a number of clubs, including Liverpool, having conversations about signing Gavi.

This would be a very exciting signing for any team in Europe, but unfortunately, according to Bailey, Barcelona are still confident that they’ll be able to keep hold of their young star.

What’s been said?

Bailey spoke about Gavi.

“We did a story that Premier League clubs were sniffing around him, but his representatives made it clear saying ‘thanks for the interest, but he’s staying at Barca.’ But things have changed a little bit,” Bailey said.

“Over the course of this summer Gavi has become a bit unsettled with some of the things he’s seen, especially the Bernardo Silva links, as it stands this deal isn’t signed yet. There have been talks going on with clubs on the outside, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all had conversations to gauge the situation.”

“The interesting point with Gavi is that he’s out of contract in 12 months, they have a few months now to sort out this situation, they’re still confident he’ll stay. I think he’ll stay, but they’re getting into a saga here that they didn’t need to.”

He’ll be staying

As nice as it is to dream about a player like Gavi playing for Liverpool, we just can’t see it.

As Bailey says, Barcelona are confident that he’ll stay – there’s your first problem, and it’s just simply not in Barca’s DNA to let a player like this go.

Any other club in the world would be in danger of losing this type of footballer, but Barca value these midfield playmakers more than any other team in the world and they’re utterly obsessed with using their La Masia graduates to the best of their abilities.

Things seem precarious right now, but Gavi will more likely than not be staying at Camp Nou.
