FC Barcelona reportedly have plans in place to sign rumoured Leeds United target Noussair Mazraoui, who Marcelo Bielsa was eager to bring to Elland Road last summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan side are eager to open to talks with the Moroccan international ahead of a summer move, with Mazraoui’s contract with Ajax set to expire at the end of this season.

As per the Italian journalist, Barcelona are eyeing as many as four free agents this summer, including Chelsea dup Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta and AC Milan star Frank Kessie, yet their interest in Mazraoui appears to be new.

Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger revealed via the Die Dortmund-Woche podcast that Borussia Dortmund were in the driving seat to sign Mazraoui, with both Leeds and Arsenal also keen on the Eredivisie star as per ESPN.

Mazraoui has starred for Ajax this season in what has been a campaign to remember for the Netherlands giants, with Erik Ten Hag’s side looking likely to retain the league title as well as make a significant run in the UEFA Champions League.

And the defender’s form has now seemingly caught the eye of Barcelona, with Mazraoui a player who could be useful for Xavi Hernandez’s side as well as cost them very little given the fullback’s contract situation.

Leeds have no chance of competing with Barcelona for Mazraoui

Competition for Mazraoui is now starting to heat up, and Leeds, the Yorkshire side simply have no chance of winning the race for the Ajax star with Barcelona now firmly interested in the right-back.

Indeed, Barcelona have the prestige and European pedigree to sign most of the big-name players in football, and for Mazraoui, choosing the Catalan giants over Leeds is a no-brainer for the 24-year-old defender.
