Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel has been discussing Spurs’ interest in Djed Spence.

This transfer saga has dragged on for months at this point, and earlier this week it looked as though there had finally been a breakthrough.

Indeed, The Telegraph reported that a £15m fee had been agreed between both Tottenham and Middlesbrough, but Mokbel is now disputing that claim.

The reporter states that no fee has been agreed, and according to his information, there is an impasse between the two clubs and a deal isn’t close.

What’s been said?

Mokbel shared what he knows about Spence.

“No, I think it’s the fee. I don’t think Tottenham are prepared to match the fee that Middlesbrough want. I think Djed Spence would sign for Tottenham, but there is an impasse and from what I understand there isn’t an agreement in place between the two clubs,” Mokbel said.

“He hasn’t visited the training ground from what I’m led to believe, and I don’t think that deal is necessarily close to being completed, the talks are ongoing and all it takes is one breakthrough and the deal could be done in a matter of minutes. He’s obviously a priority signing.”

Dragging on

This transfer saga is becoming rather tedious at this point.

Spurs have been linked to Spence for months, they know what they have to pay, and they’re refusing to cough up the cash.

Of course, if Tottenham feel they can get him cheaper, it’s worth driving a hard bargain, but if the wing-back isn’t in place for pre-season, he could struggle to adapt to his new surroundings once he eventually lands in north London.

Tottenham need to get moving on this one if they want Spence to hit the ground running.
