Daily Star reporter Paul Brown has told Give Me Sport that Antonio Conte “really likes” Everton attacker Anthony Gordon and sees “something special” in the no.10 – only for Chelsea to price Tottenham out of a move in the summer.
Gordon, 21, was the subject of huge interest in the summer. Having played 60 senior games for Everton before the summer, he had a hand in 15 goals. Gordon has added another three goals to his name in his 15 games this season.
It was Chelsea that pushed hardest, but in the end, Gordon remains at Goodison Park. He has a contract with his boyhood club until the summer of 2025. The interest remains in his services, and Everton sit in a lowly 17th place.
Whether he would be open to a January move remains to be seen. But another relegation fight will be something he will want to avoid. Brown says Conte is a huge fan, on a personal level, but Chelsea priced Spurs out of a move.

“Tottenham’s interest in Gordon has never gone away. Conte, in particular, really likes this guy – sees something special in him. The issue for them was that they did not value Gordon any more than about £30million in the summer.
“His value then skyrocketed when Chelsea came in and let it be known quite publicly that they would be willing to pay a whole lot more than that. I cannot see Spurs matching the sort of value that Chelsea have put on him,” Brown says.
Brown: Conte likes Gordon but Chelsea priced Tottenham out of move
What is Gordon’s best move? Of course, he will want to avoid another relegation scrap with Everton. He will be desperate to help his boyhood club retain their place in the Premier League and finish a whole lot better than last term.
But, it does not look good for Everton in their bid to survive a relegation scrap. A move to Tottenham or Chelsea in January will prove tempting. However, being in a relegation fight last season got the best out of the Everton no.10.
A move to Spurs or Chelsea would see Gordon go from being first choice, to a squad player. Both London clubs have better players in the final third, but it would see him join a bigger club, playing in Europe, on bigger wages.
