Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Richarlison and Chelsea’s attempts to sign the Brazilian this summer.

As we all know, Richarlison eventually signed for Spurs from Everton, but, as was reported at the time, Chelsea tried their best to hijack this deal.

While Todd Boehly was submitting a big-money bid for the striker, one of Chelsea’s players was messaging Richarlison behind the scenes about a move to Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Thiago Silva was reportedly in touch with his Brazil teammate about a move to west London, but sadly for Chelsea, the defender was too late to change anything.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Thiago Silva’s role in Chelsea’s attempted hijack.

“Chelsea submitted a bid to Everton, it was an important bid also including potentially some players, but Everton said no because they had an agreement with Tottenham for a higher bid, but I can also reveal that Thiago Silva was trying to send some messages to Richarlison to see how advanced the deal was with Tottenham if he had a chance to join Chelsea, but it was too late, but Chelsea really wanted to hijack the Richarlison deal,” Romano said.

Too little too late

Chelsea probably could’ve beaten Spurs to Richarlison if they’d acted a little quicker.

Think about it, the Blues don’t have attackers such as Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in their squad, so they could’ve offered Richarlison a more regular starting role, while it’s clear to see that Silva and Richarlison are good friends.

Unfortunately for the Blues, they made this move a little too late in the window, and the former Everton man ended up joining one of their biggest rivals.
