The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella has said Chelsea’s 4-0 pre-season defeat to Arsenal played a role in Thomas Tuchel’s sacking by the Blues, with the first seed of doubt for Todd Boehly being planted that night.

The journalist took to Twitter to delve into the reasons behind the German’s surprise dismissal this week as Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea after a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League, with a defeat to Arsenal in pre-season seemingly a reason behind the club’s new owner to make the decision.

Managers lasting long at Chelsea are a rare occurrence, as we all know, yet there was a strong belief behind many supporters of both the Blues and neutrals that Tuchel will remain at Stamford Bridge for some time given his incredible CV and his Champions League-title win back in 2020.

With the German also spending close to £250m this summer in the market, the decision from Chelsea to sack Tuchel now after the former PSG manager finally got in players he wanted to sign is incredibly odd, and it seems that losing to Arsenal first put doubts into Bohely’s mind about the Blues boss.

Mikel Arteta’s side swept Chelsea away in a pre-season friendly in Florida in a 4-0 win for Arsenal, a game that was highlighted by Tuchel’s furious post-game reaction calling out the squad and the need for new players, yet despite the masses amount of money spent in the summer, Bohely has pulled the trigger to sack the German already.

Whilst Chelsea once again being a search for a new manager, Arsenal and Arteta could feel somewhat relieved that their west London and Premier League rivals have made such a rash decision so early in the season as it could boost the Gunners’ chances of a top-four finish.

Indeed, the Blues have been poor this season, and whilst sacking Tuchel could bring a new manager bounce, very few coaches currently available will have the quality to maintain Chelsea’s run for a top-four spot in the league, something Arsenal should take full advantage of.
