Speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Lucas Paqueta’s situation amid a number of transfer rumours.

The reporter is well aware of interest from both Newcastle United and Manchester City, but his comments on Arsenal’s interest in the player make for the most interesting reading.

Indeed, Jacobs says that Arsenal are more than loosely interest in a move for Paqueta, despite the fact Edu has denied rumours that the Gunners have made an approach for the midfielder.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Paqueta and Arsenal.

“He has lots of offers from all across Europe. There are a number of Premier League club that are, loosely speaking, circling, Newcastle are one of them, he was on their radar in January. Manchester City could make a late enquiry potentially, they’ve been monitoring the situation, and Arsenal are a team that are, loosely speaking, interested, in fact, I would word it as even more than loosely, although Edu says that they have not made an approach,” Jacobs said.

Unnecessary

It sounds as though Arsenal are rather keen on a move for Paqueta, but, in our view, the Gunners don’t need to bring the Brazilian to the Emirates.

Indeed, with Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira both at the club, Arsenal really don’t need a new attacking midfield player.

Yes, Paqueta can play slightly deeper, but with Arsenal utilising a 4-2-3-1, they need to have a specialist in that role to provide a real balance in that midfield. Otherwise, there would be a glaring hole in the middle of the park.

Paqueta is simply too attacking for this Arsenal team at the moment, and bringing him in this summer would be overkill.
