Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has speculated that Alfie Whiteman may have already extended his contract at Tottenham without any official announcement.
Indeed, Gold was asked about the 22-year-old’s contract situation, and while he wasn’t able to give a firm answer, he said he wouldn’t be shocked if he had extended his deal when he went out on loan.
Gold says Spurs have a habit of sneakily adding an extra year onto these young players’ contracts when they go out on loan, and he thinks the same thing could have happened with Whiteman.

Gold was questioned about Whiteman’s contract situation.
“Well, as I found out with Cameron Carter-Vickers, never, ever believe the contract end date stated anywhere with any young player at Tottenham,” Gold said.
“The club have this habit, and this isn’t the first time, they did it with Tanganga at one point. Of, behind the scenes, extending the player’s contract when they go out on loan, essentially to protect themselves. Maybe it’s an automatic option or maybe the player has stuck another year on at the same rate.
“I wouldn’t say Alfie will disappear off into the sunset next summer, that’s not guaranteed at all. He may well have already added an extension onto his deal.”
Wouldn’t be surprising
It certainly wouldn’t be surprising if Whiteman had extended his deal on the sly.
As Gold says, Spurs have a tendency to do this type of thing under the radar, and Whiteman seems like exactly the type of player they’d do this with.
The 22-year-old is a young, promising goalkeeper, so it’s hard to imagine Spurs will simply cut ties with him after this loan spell.
