According to the latest information provided by journalist Keith Downie via GiveMeSport, Newcastle United will have to break their wage structure if they sign James Maddison.

Recently, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs had told GiveMeSport that Eddie Howe’s side are prepared to pay above Leicester’s valuation for the 25-year-old to complete a deal for him.

Jacobs claimed that in the summer, the Magpies’ offer was £10-£15 million short in their pursuit for the England international.

Considering Sky Sports had reported at the time that Newcastle’s second bid for Maddison was £50 million, the fact that they are willing to pay upwards of said fee indicates how much they wish to sign him.

However, that may be just the start of how much it costs to keep the in-form midfielder content at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are willing to dismantle their wage structure to win Maddison race

Journalist Keith Downie told GiveMeSport that Newcastle United will have to break their wage structure to sign their longstanding target.

“What Newcastle have to do for James Maddison is break their wage structure. Obviously, he’s going to be wanting significantly more than he’s on at Leicester with his contract running down”, he said.

Downie concluded, “It’s just whether Newcastle are willing to go that number.”

At present, Sportrac have mentioned that the Englishman takes home £110,000-a-week at the King Power Stadium.

The Magpies should flex their financial muscle to sign Maddison

While many would be against the idea of Newcastle moving away from their measured business approach, James Maddison, who has been one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders this seaspn would elevate the side to another level.

Even England teammate Mason Mount recently told talkSPORT that he has been “amazing this season.”

Considering the club were reluctant to go big during Mike Ashley’s time in charge, the takeover gives the Magpies the license the chance to get big names such as Maddison in to further accelerate their burgeoning project.

With the Leicester talisman perfect suited to play as one of the advanced 8’s in place of Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff at Newcastle, his arrival is certainly worth the investment.
