TalkSPORT transfer expert Alex Crook has claimed in a video posted on Twitter that Newcastle could complete a deal to sign Robin Gosens by Saturday. Reports say Newcastle are ready to table a fee of £29million.
Gosens, 27, is regarded as one of the best left-footed players in Serie A football. Fans will remember his stunning form for Germany at Euro 2020 – in which scored and laid on two assists in a 4-2 win over Portugal.
CalcioMercato report that Newcastle are ready to table an offer in the region of £25million, to £29million – with a signing-on fee of £3million. Indeed, Crooks delivers an update on that, as Newcastle pursue Gosens.
Crook says personal terms are agreed with the 13-time Germany star and that all that is left to do, is to agree a fee with Atalanta. Crook says a deal could be done by the time Newcastle take on Leeds on Saturday.
“Sources in Germany suggest that personal terms between Newcastle and Gosens have already been agreed,” Crook said. “They are yet to come to an agreement with Atalanta in terms of a transfer fee.
“That’s one that could get done between now – and not just the end of the window – but by the time Newcastle play again in the Premier League.”
Crook on Gosens: Newcastle would be pulling off signing of the window
Gosens is a top, top player. He would finally solve a problem at Newcastle that has lasted since Rafa Benitez’s era. The Toon have lacked a long-term left-sided defender for some time – Jetro Willems giving some respite.
Paul Dummett is mediocre, Danny Rose struggled on loan, Kenedy was better further forward, Anto Barreca flopped, Jamal Lewis struggling and now – Matt Ritchie is a right-sided winger playing left-back.
A new left-back has got to be brought to the club in the next fortnight and Gosens would be a brilliant addition. The German would not only solve Newcastle’s woes, but would be one of the club’s best players.
