According to Florian Plettenburg, Manchester United now want to sign Jeremie Frimpong – who Manchester City and Celtic both let go.

Manchester United now want to sign Frimpong

Well, Erik ten Hag has been left unconvinced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford, giving the Englishman just four minutes of action in the Premier League this season.

Diogo Dalot has done well in the starting XI, but the Red Devils are still keen to bring a top right-back to Old Trafford, hence why they have focused their attention on Frimpong.

The Bayer Leverkusen No.30 – who was sold by Celtic in January 2021 in a deal worth £11.5m – has become one of the most exciting defenders in Europe since swapping Scotland for Germany.

Frimpong has impressively scored four goals in just ten Bundesliga outings so far this season, while he has also provided two assists in just three Champions League appearances.

Plettenburg – a journalist for Sky Germany – believes Manchester United want to sign the Dutchman in January.

He adds that the Netherlands Under-21 international is contracted to Bayer Leverkusen until July 2025.

Sport1 believe Bayern Munich are also keen to sign Frimpong as a result of his stunning performances.

Manchester United could embarrass Manchester City with Frimpong deal

In our view, it would be quite embarrassing for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola if Frimpong goes on to become a superstar at Manchester United.

Why? Well, the Citizens actually sold the 21-year-old to Celtic for just £300,000 back in 2019, and bizarrely failed to negotiate a buyback clause.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Citizens only agreed a 30% cut of the £11.5m deal which saw him join Bayer Leverkusen, as far as clauses go.

Should Frimpong become a hero for Manchester City’s bitter rivals at Old Trafford, it would surely leave Guardiola with egg on his face.
