According to Ben Jacobs, Manchester United admire Michael Edwards, who left Liverpool earlier this year.
Manchester United could hire man who transformed Liverpool
Well, despite plenty of rumours, the Red Devils are not close to hiring Edwards as their new Director of Football – according to the Daily Mail, however, there is interest.
That position is currently filled by John Murtough, who helped bring the likes of Antony and Casemiro to Old Trafford this summer as Erik ten Hag replaced Ralf Rangnick.
However, Edwards cannot be ignored for what he did at Liverpool.
The recruitment expert did well to create magic within the confinements on Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and their tight pursestrings, receiving huge fees for unwanted players, while also signing some gems.
Edwards somehow managed to convince Bournemouth to spend £19m on Dominic Solanke, while also selling Jordon Ibe to the Cherries for £15m.
He also took Crystal Palace to the cleaners when selling Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho to the south Londoners for £27m and £26m respectively.
Edwards then used those funds to sign Mohamed Salah in a £34m deal from Roma, as well as other diamonds such as Andy Robertson for £8m and Thiago for £20m.

If Edwards was able to create a Premier League and Champions League winning side on a sell-to-buy policy under FSG, then who knows what he is capable of at Old Trafford, where more than £1bn has been spent since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
In our view, he is more than able to restore Manchester United to the juggernauts they once were.
Edwards is a shrewd thinker, with plenty of contacts in the transfer market. He can give the Red Devils some direction with their spending, with their approach coming across as scattergun in recent times.
If Edwards is hired by Manchester United and helps Ten Hag bring silverware back to Old Trafford, it will surely leave Liverpool with a sick feeling in their stomach.
