Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle United and their interest in Scott McTominay.

The Magpies have been linked with McTominay for a little while now, and according to Jacobs, they’re still exploring a deal for the Scottish midfielder.

Indeed, Jacobs says that Newcastle are looking into whether or not the player would be open to a move, but he did add that a deal remains difficult due to the fact Manchester United are not keen to sell the midfielder at this moment in time.

Newcastle looking into McTominay

The reporter shared what he knows about this situation.

“In terms of exits I still think that Scott McTominay is one to watch. Manchester United’s position is very clear though that they don’t want to let him go, but Newcastle, who haven’t been busy in this January transfer window, are still exploring that situation at least on the player’s side, but that is going to be very difficult to persuade Manchester United,” Jacobs said.

Unlikely

As much as Newcastle may like to sign McTominay, it has to be said that this move seems unlikely.

Indeed, when Manchester United don’t want to sell a player, they’re very rarely pressured into it – especially when it’s one of their homegrown stars.

McTominay may not be first-choice at Old Trafford at the moment, but he’s very settled in Manchester and getting a fair number of minutes in all competitions.

McTominay would be a decent addition to this Newcastle midfield, but, in all honesty, the Magpies may have to look elsewhere here as Manchester United are unlikely to change their stance on a player they’re not keen to sell – especially in the January transfer window.
