Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that he has heard Jose Mourinho will look to bring Tottenham ace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to AS Roma this summer. Hojbjerg has been a mainstay since Antonio Conte arrived at Spurs.

Hojbjerg, 26, is two games away from clocking up an enormous 100 appearances in just two seasons at Tottenham – with three Premier League games still to play. The Dane is a crucial cog in Conte’s Tottenham 3-4-3.

Alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, he has formed a solid partnership and that was on full show against Anfield – Hojbjerg actually unlucky not to score, clipping the post with a well-hit drive from around 25 yards out.

His form has not gone unnoticed by his ex-manager Mourinho, though. The Roma gaffer wants a midfielder, as he looks to strengthen a side that has got to the Europa Conference League final. Jones says he wants Hojbjerg.

“One thing I’m hearing on Hojbjerg is that Mourinho quite fancies taking him. Jose intends to ask the board to back his vision as he thinks they can make a real push at the top of Serie A – and Hojbjerg could be a great asset.”

Mourinho eyes Hojbjerg: Why would Tottenham star leave for Roma?

Hojbjerg is hardly going to leave Tottenham, one of the most-attractive clubs in the Premier League given Antonio Conte, the stadium and the location, for a Roma side that might not get Europa League next term.

Roma sit sixth in Serie A, which means qualification for the ECL – and with two games left, they are three behind Lazio. They have to beat Feyenoord in the ECL final to qualify for the Europa League – easier said than done.

So, why would Hojbjerg leave for Roma? Well, as Jones states, Mourinho sees Roma challenging for Serie A next season and that could prove tempting. But Conte will see Spurs challenging too.
