Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Edu will not entertain any offers for Arsenal star Bukayo Saka this summer, even if a bid is tabled by Liverpool. Indeed, Jones claims a new deal for Saka is much more likely.

Saka, 20, is already one of Arsenal’s best players – quite remarkable given his age. Last season, he had a hand in 19 goals from out wide and he is only going to get better. Arsenal need to match his ambition as it quickly grows.

The England international has now entered the final two years of his Emirates contract. There is doubt regarding his future and Liverpool have been linked. Little surprise, given he has the potential to be a Premier League legend.

With 131 Arsenal outings to his name, the Gunners cannot let him go. To the delight of Arsenal fans, Jones says Edu will not entertain any bids for Saka despite his contract – even from Liverpool – and he is more likely to sign a new deal.

“Edu particularly won’t entertain offers for Saka at the moment and doesn’t believe that even a Liverpool bid could force the club to sell at the moment, so I think he will sign a new contract,” Jones told GMS.

Saka would be a sensational signing for Liverpool. Ultimately, Arsenal’s no.7 would be a stunning signing for any club in the world at this stage. It means that Arsenal must keep him grounded and in line with their ambition.

But also respect that Saka has possibly outgrown a side that are only in the Europa League. He is easily a Champions League player. So, offering him new terms this summer to deter other clubs should be top priority.

A new deal, with a hefty pay rise, until perhaps the summer of 2027, would give Arsenal stability regarding Saka. But Saka will only sign it if they match his ambition, which will certainly be more than Europa League football.
