Speaking on his YouTube channel, Charles Watts has been discussing the vacant U23 manager role at Arsenal and Jack Wilshere.

The journalist actually interviewed Wilshere last week, and the midfielder dropped something of a bombshell, stating that he’d be open to retiring if the right coaching opportunity came up for him.

This week, Kevin Betsy left his post as Arsenal’s U23 manager, and as you can imagine, Wilshere’s comments led to plenty of speculation about a return to north London for the England international.

Watts believes that Wilshere would certainly be interested in the role, but due to the fact he’s not completed all of his coaching badges, the journalist believes this may not come to fruition.

What’s been said?

Watts spoke about Wilshere.

“People have been saying to me ‘Jack Wilshere, Jack Wilshere!’ I interviewed Jack recently a week ago, a week and a half ago. And he spoke at length about how he may retire now if a decent coaching opportunity came up. He obviously spent the beginning of this year and the end of last year coaching at Arsenal and working with the young players, so maybe that’s something, he hasn’t passed his coaching badges, but we’ll have to wait and see if that’s something Arsenal look at. I think it’s doubtful, but hey, if the opportunity arose he’d throw his hat in the ring,” Watts said.

Worth a try

Wilshere may not be the most qualified man for this job, but this could be worth a try for Arsenal.

Think about it, Wilshere already knows the U23s squad from his time training with the club earlier this year, and he knows what it takes to be an academy star at Arsenal.

Of course, things didn’t quite work out for Wilshere in the end at Arsenal, but a tale of what not to do is often as important as telling someone what they should do.

Wilshere as Arsenal’s U23 manager is certainly something we’d like to see.
