Tottenham Hotspur were seemingly nearing a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore – but then went quiet on the move.
That’s according to The Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke, who was speaking on the Tottenham-based ‘From The Lane’ podcast.
At 24:34 in the episode, Pitt-Brooke talks about Tottenham’s pursuit of Traore ahead of the transfer deadline on Tuesday.
Pitt-Brooke claims that Tottenham had actually agreed a deal to take Traore on loan for the season and then pay up to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
However, Pitt-Brooke claims that Tottenham then went quiet and didn’t want to settle on a deal there and then, instead going elsewhere to see what else is on the market.
It’s now unclear whether Traore will end up at Tottenham, with Nuno Espirito Santo keen on reuniting with the Spanish winger having branded him ‘special’ in the past.
“Certainly this week they have been thinking and talking about Adama Traore from Wolves,” said Pitt-Brooke. “My understanding of this is that they had agreed a deal with Wolves, which was more or less that Adama Traore would come on loan to Spurs this season and then they would buy him next season.”
“But Tottenham didn’t quite want to complete this deal while they spent another few days assessing what else might be out there. This was a few days ago, so I’m not exactly sure what the situation is right now with Traore,” he added.

This is how Fabio Paratici likes to work really; getting far down the line with four, five or even six targets before eventually whittling them down and signing one.
This may well be the case with Traore, but other wingers are being linked with Tottenham too.
Jeremy Doku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia seem to be targets too, though Noni Madueke won’t be returning to the club having signed a new contract at PSV Eindhoven.
With just a few days of the transfer window to go, Tottenham need to make their mind up on Traore or find that Wolves refuse to deal, with time running out for them to sign a replacement.
