Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to loan out Oliver Skipp this past summer is proving rather inspired.

Spurs gave the 20-year-old midfielder to Norwich City for the 2020-21 campaign and the youngster is impressing every week.

Skipp, labelled a future Tottenham captain by Jose Mourinho, has started all 16 of the Canaries’ Championship games so far this season and he certainly should, in theory, return to North London a much better, more rounded footballer.

He had 15 Premier League appearances before even heading out on loan, illustrating his potential.

And Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold – who writes for Football London – has told his YouTube channel that Skipp could even bench a big name like Moussa Sissoko or Harry Winks in the near future.

He said: “Everyone at the club has massive hopes for him and he’s gone away to Norwich absolutely proving it I think he’s a very technically good young player who’s also capable of getting up the pitch and I do think, for Sissoko and Winks, long-term, he’s the threat.”

The Championship is a very difficult, very physical league and there’s no doubt that coming through it with flying colours will set Skipp up to stake a claim in Mourinho’s squad next season.

Yes, he’s still so young, but the ability and potential is undeniable and another solid six months at Carrow Road could well lay the foundations for the Spurs career that a lot of people expect him to have.
