Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Everton hitman Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, according to a journalist.
Kane’s future was plunged into further doubt a little earlier this week after the 28-year-old failed to report for pre-season training, amid speculation of a switch to Manchester City.
And Pete O’Rourke has told The Football Terrace on YouTube that Spurs could seriously look at the Everton striker to replace their star man, should he go.
He said: “I still wonder that if Kane does go, possibly a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton. He’s definitely on Tottenham’s radar. They see him as a potential number nine and Tottenham see him as potential replacement material.”
Realistic?
Any move for Kane would pocket Tottenham a minimum of nine figures and there’s no doubt that the North Londoners could certainly afford the Toffees star, a £1.5 million signing from Sheffield United five years ago.
With that being said, the 24-year-old, who scored 21 goals in 39 games for the Goodison Park club last season, is probably Everton’s most important player and it would take a massive offer to convince the Merseysiders to offload the England international, who has four years to go on his contract.
Rafael Benitez will have probably accepted the Toffees job on the condition that none of the club’s major players are sold and therefore no, it isn’t realistic to think that the Lilywhites could swoop for Calvert-Lewin.
Besides, many Tottenham fans may want a more established name, too.
Not that Calvert-Lewin isn’t a fine number nine, but Kane is easily one of the world’s best and therefore they’re going to need a bonafide, world-class figure to replace him.
And is the Everton man world class? He could be in the near future but for now, no.
