Alex Crook has claimed on talkSPORT (8:14pm, June 6, 2021) that Southampton do not plan to sell James Ward-Prowse amid reported interest from Aston Villa.

The Guardian has claimed that Villa are planning to make a bid for Southampton defensive midfielder Ward-Prowse.

Well-known and well-respected talkSPORT journalist Crook has said that Southampton have been taken aback by the report.

The journalist has added that the Saints have no intention whatsoever of selling the England international.

Crook said on talkSPORT (8:14pm, June 6, 2021): “I have spoken to someone fairly senior at Southampton.

“They were quite surprised by that story because Christian Purslow at Aston Villa has a really good relationship with the Saints board and I was told that not only would they not just bid out of the blue, but they would know that Southampton have no intention of selling Ward-Prowse.”

Southampton are an established club in the Premier League.

Ward-Prowse has been on the books of the Saints his entire professional club football career so far.

The England international midfielder has publicly not given any indication that he wants to leave Southampton.

Of course, money talks, but Southampton are not exactly in dire need of cash.

Ward-Prowse made 38 appearances in the Premier League for Southampton this past season.

The England international midfielder scored eight goals and gave seven assists in those games.

Villa would be a better team with the midfielder in it, but it does not seem that Southampton would be receptive to any bid.
