According to BILD’s Christian Falk, Paris Saint-Germain are now in talks to sign Antonio Rudiger, who is said to be a target for Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, the journalist revealed that PSG held a meeting with the £34m Chelsea man in recent weeks, as Mauricio Pochettino aims to bring the German to Paris.
If he succeeds in doing so, he would be getting one over on his former side Tottenham, with Eurosport claiming that Spurs are keen on the centre-back.
Falk believes PSG’s Director of Football, Leonardo, met with Sahr Senesie – the agent and brother of Rudiger – in France to discuss a transfer.
In our view, that already represents a setback for Tottenham, as PSG are among the richest clubs in the world and will provide serious competition.
Rudiger’s contract at Chelsea expires in June, and there has been no progress on a renewal at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in signing the 28-year-old, while Real Madrid are keen on acquiring the defender as well.
Do Tottenham have any chance of signing Antonio Rudiger?
In our view, it seems unlikely that Rudiger will swap west London for north London.
Aside from damaging his legacy at Chelsea by joining bitter rivals, the 49-cap Germany international also has a patchy past with Antonio Conte.
The Italian once froze Rudiger out after he questioned his tactics, with the defender accusing Conte of “ranting” at his players.
Add that to the fact Real Madrid and PSG have far more financial might than Spurs, and we can’t see this deal happening for the north Londoners.
Having said that, keep an eye on the situation, as anything could happen.
