Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube Channel, Simon Hughes has given an insight into the internal view of Ozan Kabak at Liverpool.
The Turkish defender joined the Reds on deadline day from a struggling Schalke side, and the Reds believe that he could make the step up in the same way Andy Robertson did when he arrived from Hull City.
“From within Liverpool, speaking to a few people, there’s a belief that they see him a bit like Andy Robertson where let’s not forget, at Hull he was really, really struggling at Hull and was drowning in the pit of despair that was having several managers in one season, and the club getting relegated,” Hughes said
“Nobody would have predicted that he’d vecome the player he became, the only other club who made a bid for Andy Robertson when he came to Liverpool was Burnley, so there’s some parallels there with Kabak.”

The 20-year-old certainly has room to grow at his age, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can step up in the same way Robertson did.
The Scot is arguably one of the world’s best left-backs right now, so if Kabak does follow a similar path, the Reds will have a brilliant player on their hands.
More poignantly, if Kabak does step up a gear in the same was Robertson did when he arrived, that may tempt the Reds into activating their option to buy him at the end of the season.
The Turkish youngster is certainly a player to keep an eye on in the coming months.
