Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper has seen them linked with almost every goalie under the sun.
The likes of Tomas Strakosha, Yann Sommer and Kevin Trapp have all been linked recently, and now, they’re looking at an option from within the Premier League.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have now made a loan offer for Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka.
This is a very interesting development to say the least.
Dubravka is a very talented goalkeeper, but after the arrival of Nick Pope at St James’ Park, he’s firmly second-choice on Tyneside.
It must be said though, Dubravka doesn’t exactly solve United’s goalkeeping problems.
Indeed, the Slovakian is a fantastic shot-stopper, but, much like David De Gea, he’s not the best distributor of a football.
However, after De Gea’s performance against Liverpool where he continuously played long balls, perhaps Erik ten Hag is no longer prioritising a goalkeeper who can play out from the back.
Dubravka would certainly provide quality depth in that area, while this news may also be welcomed at Nottingham Forest.
We have to imagine that Dubravka’s potential arrival at Old Trafford may mean that the writing is on the wall for Dean Henderson and his future in the north west.
Henderson is currently shining out on loan at Nottingham Forest, and this Dubravka deal certainly boosts the Reds’ chances of landing the England international on a permanent deal at the end of the season – despite a lack of an option to buy in this deal.
Of course, Dubravka would only potentially be arriving on an initial loan, so Henderson may still return to Old Trafford, but these sort of loan deals can quickly become permanent if the player impresses.
Dubravka wasn’t in the matchday squad for Newcastle on Wednesday as the Magpies faced Tranmere Rovers, and this bid from United may explain why he didn’t play any part in the Carabao Cup clash this week.
