Liverpool could now sign Leeds target Noah Okafor in January after the World Cup ends, as a result of his impressive displays for RB Salzburg.

That is according to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany, who believes the Switzerland international has a price tag in the region of €35m – €40m (£31m – £35m).

Liverpool join Leeds in race for Okafor

Well, the Reds lost Divock Origi, Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino in the summer, and only one forward in Darwin Nunez arrived to compensate for the trio’s departures.

That has left Jürgen Klopp with a shortage in the attacking department, something the German seems to realise as he now focuses his attention on Okafor.

Plettenburg believes Manchester City and AC Milan are also interested in the 22-year-old, who has enjoyed an excellent season so far in Austria.

The RB Salzburg No.77 has scored ten goals and provided two assists in 22 appearances this term, including strikes against Chelsea and AC Milan in the Champions League.

Plettenburg adds that an exit from RB Salzburg is a real possibility for Okafor this winter, which gives Liverpool and Leeds hope of completing a deal.

It was Calciomercato who revealed that Leeds want to sign the Swiss attacker, who worked with Jesse Marsch at RB Salzburg.

Leeds won’t be pleased about Liverpool interest

In our view, Leeds will probably be starting to feel as if they should have wrapped up a deal in the summer.

Now, Liverpool – as well as Manchester City and AC Milan – are interested, which provides Leeds with serious competition in this transfer battle.

Okafor scored ten goals and provided seven assists in 44 appearances under Marsch, seemingly enjoying his football under the American, so Leeds may have felt like they had a good chance at this deal.

Now, the Whites will have to pull off something special if they are to sign Okafor, as some of Europe’s elite clubs sit up and take notice.
