As you may have heard, Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Chris Richards from Bayern Munich.
The deal has progressed quite rapidly over the past week, with the south Londoners initially agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old before holding talks with Bayern Munich over a fee.
According to the BBC, that fee has now been set at £8.5m, and if Manuel Veth is to be trusted, the Eagles could even announce the United States international’s arrival today.

Well, Veth claims that a source has told him Crystal Palace could announce Richards as early as today.
The Athletic believe the £18,000-a-week defender will now travel to London to undergo a medical with the Premier League side, before putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Richards has earned a big move to England’s top-flight after making 23 appearances on loan at TSG Hoffenheim last season, showcasing his ability to play anywhere across the backline.
With talk of Patrick Vieira looking to use a five-man backline next season with wing-backs, the American gives Crystal Palace plenty of flexibility to adapt their formation.

Interestingly, The Athletic believe Bayern Munich had hoped to agree a total package worth €18m (£15m), although as aforesaid, the BBC state that the deal will only rise to £11m if the £2.5m worth of add-ons are triggered.
Therefore, this is a great deal for the south Londoners, and one with plenty of upside given the fact Richards is just 22, boasts Champions League experience and also the ability to play in numerous areas.
