Divock Origi is very much Liverpool’s man of the moment.
Last Saturday, the Belgium international came off the bench to nick a last-minute winner in a 1-0 victory away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In midweek, the 26-year-old Liverpool attacker started and scored in a 2-1 Champions League victory over AC Milan at San Siro.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been lavishing praise on the former Lille marksman, labelling him a club ‘legend‘ after his heroics at Molineux last weekend.
However, despite being en vogue, Origi has still only managed a paltry 38 minutes of Premier League football this season – and two starts out of a possible six in the Champions League.
When Roberto Firmino returns, there’s every chance that the Belgian will go back to being the anonymous figure that he’s been at Anfield for years.
And talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has revealed that Origi – who sacked his agent this past summer – could be a potential target for West Ham United, amid a link between his new agency and the East London club.
He told talkSPORT’s Gameday podcast: “I believe he changed agents in the summer and is now part of the Will Salthouse stable, and I’m sure Darren [Lewis] will know that Will Salthouse has a relationship with the owners of West Ham, so maybe that could be a possible link come January.”
Origi should leave
Honestly, quitting Liverpool makes complete sense.
As mentioned, Firmino’s imminent return will only push Origi further down the pecking order on Merseyside and really, he’s clearly too good of a footballer to waste his talents on the bench.
Origi’s primary problem under Klopp is the German’s alternative options.
Liverpool, simply put, have an array of extremely talented players and not playing is a reflection on their brilliance, not Origi’s incompetence.
