Alex Crook has backed Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to become Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager amid the issues surrounding Julian Nagelsmann.

The talkSPORT reporter highlighted how there was always a ‘very slim’ chance that Julian Nagelsmann was going to be Tottenham’s next manager.

It has now emerged that the recently-sacked Bayern Munich coach is unsure about taking the Spurs gig because of a ‘lack of Sporting Director’.

This stems from the departure of Fabio Paratici, who was banned by FIFA for 30 months, and upon losing his appeal, the Italian quit his role at Tottenham.

That just threw the north London club into further disarray, and as of this moment, the club don’t have a manager or sporting director for next season.

Daniel Levy has some very big calls to make, with Crook suggesting why it could be Vincent Kompany, after he recently helped Burnley earn promotion to the Premier League, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (03/05/23 at 8:55 am).

“This one was always a very slim chance that he would go,” said Crook. “That chance improved when he put himself out of the running to be the Chelsea manager.

“I think it always had to be 100% right for Nagelsmann to go to Tottenham, particularly as they aren’t going to be in the Champions League next season. I think he’s concerned about the lack of a sporting director and who they might put in that position, so he won’t commit himself until he knows who he will be reporting to.

“I still think they might go down the young up-and-coming route. We know they are big admirers of Vincent Kompany. He is definitely on their list of targets.

On if Kompany would go to Spurs: “I thought he always would. Whatever mess you think Tottenham are in and whatever you think of Daniel Levy. It’s still a massive step up from Burnley to Spurs. I know the Burnley fans will be shouting at their radios. Tottenham have one of the best stadiums in Europe at the moment. They still have Harry Kane. They are a team that has been competing around the Champions League places.”

TOTTENHAM NEED A LEADER

Someone with an attack-minded philosophy needs to come in and take control of that morale-sapped Tottenham dressing room.

There are some talented players at the club, but what they have been producing of late, especially on the road, is beyond abject and laughable.

No-one is taking control, Levy has to take a large proportion of the blame, but if he doesn’t get this next appointment right, then he is toast.
