According to Freddie Paxton, Marquinhos “will be involved” at Arsenal this season following his move from Sao Paulo.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gunners paid £3m to sign the exciting 19-year-old at the beginning of June.

Marquinhos is yet to make his official, competitive debut under Mikel Arteta, although he has been used throughout pre-season, impressing supporters with his dribbling skills.

Now, amid whispers over a potential loan exit for the teenager this summer, Paxton has claimed that Arsenal will keep him around and use him in the 2022/23 campaign.

Speaking on The Fresh Arsenal Show, the journalist said: “The expectation is that he will be involved with the first team this season.”

In our view, that is the correct decision.

Arsenal aren’t blessed with an abundance of wingers, and Arteta’s options could become even thinner if Newcastle lodge an irresistible offer for Nicolas Pepe – the Magpies are supposedly interested in the Ivorian.

Marquinhos can help Arsenal

Before this season, we would have definitely suggested that Arsenal loan Marquinhos out.

However, Premier League clubs will be able to use five substitutes starting from the upcoming campaign, so the young Brazilian should get plenty of opportunities to shine from the bench.

Furthermore, Arsenal are involved in the Europa League this season, a competition which creates many chances for young prospects in the Group Stage, where the Gunners usually meet fairly weak opposition – with all due respect.

There are also many Brazilians already at the Emirates Stadium who can help Marquinhos gel with the first-team, such as Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Hopefully, the teenager can shine in his debut season at Arsenal.
