Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that West Ham have ‘looked at’ signing Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause. The Hammers are desperate to bring in some cover in the middle of their defence.

Hause, 26, has spent the last three seasons at Villa – initially joining his current side on loan in January 2019, before completing a £3million (Sun) move. In those three years, he has only played 54 times for Villa.

Indeed, the ex-Wolves man has acted as cover for the likes of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa since Villa gained promotion to the Premier League. He is out of contract at the end of the season, and West Ham are ready to pounce.

That is, according to Jones. West Ham need cover in the middle of their defence with Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma injured – with the Hammers remaining in the Europa League. Jones delivered an update.

“It’s definitely possible,” Jones said, when asked about a possible move for West Ham to sign Villa defender Hause, as per GMS. “It’s one that West Ham are looking at, I think in the last week it’s one that’s become clearer.”

West Ham eye Hause: Out-of-contract Villa star ideal for Moyes

London-born defender Hause is likely to be open to a move to West Ham, even if he is back-up. Acting as back-up at Villa, Hause has only played eight times this season. Back-up at West Ham offers more game time.

Not just because of the club’s injuries, but because they remain in Europe. It would also see Hause return to his birth place – again, another reason that could tempt the defender. Villa will be open to selling the defender.

Indeed, it is unlikely they will offer him a new deal at this stage if they have waited so long already – and this window represents the last chance to bring in a fee for Hause.
