Derby County are in the race to sign Jota, along with West Ham United.

The Sun on Sunday reports (August 6, page 64) that Jota is ignoring Derby County’s interest in the hope of a move to West Ham United, but by doing so the Brentford man could be making a big error.

Jota is said to be eager to move to West Ham this summer, and although the appeal is understandable, the move may not be best for his development.

West Ham have added Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City this summer, and they already have Manuel Lanzini in their ranks.

It is, therefore, hard to see where exactly Jota fits in to West Ham’s team.

At Derby, however, Jota could become Gary Rowett’s side’s main source of creativity.

The Rams need a play maker following the departure of Tom Ince, and Jota could fill the void.

The Spaniard is a stand out player at Championship level, and although he may be taking a longer route to the Premier League, he shouldn’t turn his nose up at the chance of joining Derby.

Gary Rowett’s side have a strong chance of promotion, if they play to their potential this season.

And if Jota could help guide Derby to promotion, he could nail down his place in Rowett’s side, and only have to wait a year longer to be playing Premier League football, which seems a preferable option to joining West Ham this summer and playing a reserve role.
