Joshua Onomah shares what he thought when he first heard he was joining Tottenham

Joshua Onomah has revealed that he thought it was a joke when he heard he was signing for Tottenham as a nine-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Joshua Onomah has told the club’s website that he thought t was a joke when he was told he was joining the club.

Onomah, 19, is attempting to establish himself in the Tottenham first team this season, as having made 19 appearances in all competitions last term, the midfielder has played five times this season.

The teenager scored his first goal for the club earlier this season with a strike in an EFL Cup tie against Gillingham, and whilst he endured a difficult game against Liverpool last month, he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

With more than 40 appearances for England at various youth levels, Onomah has been tipped as one of English football’s top young talents, and he’s now featuring for the Under-21’s as he continues his development.

Onomah’s relative success at such a young age is another sign of how the Tottenham academy is thriving, and he’s now discussed joining the club as a youngster.

The Enfield-born ace grew up supporting Tottenham, and joined his boyhood club at the age of just nine, having been spotted by Spurs scouts whilst playing in a local school competition (Daily Mail).

Now, Onomah has told the club’s official website that he initially thought it was a joke when he heard that he was signing for Spurs, and even laughed the whole thing off until he started training with the club.

Onomah began to believe that he really could play for his beloved Spurs one day, and it was a dream come true just to join the club as a youngster, well before he emerged into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino.

“When I first heard (that I’d be signing) I thought it was a joke, I sort of laughed it off until I actually had my first day here – that’s when I started to believe that I could play for Tottenham one day,” said Onomah. “It was a dream come true,” he added.
