Onomah took to social networking site Twitter to express his disappointment but gave credit to the team for hanging on till the end.

It is indeed a heart breaking moment for the youngster representing his country, and he said that he is “lost for words”.

The decision was not only unfortunate but harsh to say the least. Onomah, while dribbling past his opponent unintentionally, trod over the foot of a Mexican player.

It was an accidental collision but referee Mohammed Abdulla Hassan pulled out the second yellow for the 20-year-old, leaving his teammates surprised.

England, who were winning 1-0 at the time, were resolute and saw off the Mexican threat, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters defending brilliantly at left-back.
