Glasgow Rangers sold Josh Windass in the summer, and he has shared Steven Gerrard’s reaction when he chose to leave Ibrox.

Windass surprisingly left Ibrox during the most recent window. He never managed to unite the Rangers fanbase with some feeling that he was not doing enough with his talent, but it cannot be denied that he bagged a remarkable number of goals last season.
Nevertheless, he was given the green light by the club to discuss a £2.5 million move to Wigan Athletic in the summer – as reported by the Daily Record. But Windass has hinted that not everyone at Ibrox wanted him to leave by suggesting that Gerrard was not best pleased when he told him that he was going to make the switch.
“I wouldn’t say he was devastated but he said to me ‘you’ve got a decision to make, the board have accepted this offer but it is down to you’. So I rang Anthony Barry the assistant at Wigan, I knew they were a good side and I always wanted to come down to England but I never thought I would come now in this window,” he told Open Goal.

“He told me about the team and I said ‘yeah that’s brilliant I’ll come down’. So I went back to Stevie and said ‘I think I’m going to go speak to Wigan’. I don’t think he was that happy when I said it. He just stood up and went ‘no hard feelings’ and walked off but he didn’t seem happy.”
Regardless of what some thought about Windass, it is no surprise that Gerrard seemingly wanted to keep the attacking midfielder in his ranks as he does provide plenty of quality and could still improve further.

Fortunately for the Gers, his departure does not appear to have hurt the club too much. Rangers are the highest scorers in the Scottish Premiership with 32 goals coming in just 12 games.
And with those goals being fairly evenly spread, Windass’ summer exit has so far probably not hurt the side as much as some may have expected.
