Josh Windass has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to Rangers after his two-year spell with the Gers was brought to an end as he swapped Ibrox for Championship side Wigan Athletic.

There was plenty of speculation regarding Windass’ future at Rangers over the summer. His form often divided supporters, with many seemingly not convinced that he was giving enough despite his return of 18 goals in all competitions last season.

New manager Steven Gerrard seemed to hint that Windass leaving may not be out of the question by handing him a slightly more peripheral role at the start of this season. And ahead of the club’s Europa League tie with Maribor on Thursday, it became apparent that Windass’ hours as a Rangers player were numbered amid talk of a return to England.

Ultimately, it was Wigan that landed Windass’ signature on the final day of the English window. The move, unsurprisingly, divided much of the Rangers fanbase. And now, the attacking midfielder has taken to social media to comment on his exit.

Windass thanked the Scottish Premiership side for the chance to play for them, and suggested that it was a fantastic experience for him to represent the Gers since his move from Accrington Stanley. Here is what Windass posted…

So far, it appears that the Rangers supporters may not end up missing the forward too much. Gerrard’s men won 2-0 at the weekend despite playing much of the game with 10 men following Ross McCrorie’s red card. But Windass certainly has the ability to make the Gers rue the decision to sell him during the coming months.
