Josh Windass and Matt Crooks signed for Rangers together last summer. Now one has left Ibrox permanently.

In January 2016 Glasgow Rangers raided English League Two side Accrington Stanley to sign Josh Windass and Matt Crooks.

The double deal upset Stanley, as they missed out on the compensation they could have gained on two young players had they signed for an English club instead.

Both players had to wait until the summer when their contracts expired to move North, and the jury had been out as to whether it was worth the wait.

In Crooks’ case the verdict is in already.

He failed to earn a place in Rangers’ side last season and was loaned to Scunthorpe United.

Yesterday he clinched a move back South to sign with Northampton.

Windass was quick to wish him luck on social media.

Windass himself faces a less than certain future after underwhelming in his first season in Scotland.

He was part of the Rangers team which lost to Progres Niederkorn, and with Pedro Caixinha’s plans at the club still taking shape, he faces a battle to establish himself.

If he can’t, then a move back to England like Crooks will surely beckon.
