Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson has confirmed he will leave Ibrox.
Rangers youngster Jordan Thompson has confirmed he will leave Ibrox for good despite an excellent loan spell with newly-promoted Livingston, and senior star Josh Windass reacted on Twitter.
Thompson, 21, has been told his contract will not be renewed at Ibrox, despite starring for Livi during the second half of the season. He featured in all four play-off games as David Hopkin’s side gained promotion to the Premiership.
The Northern Ireland Under-19 international made three senior appearances for the Gers, after joining the club from Manchester United’s youth academy. But he failed to make a proper stamp on the first team.
He confirmed on Twitter that he would be leaving the club with a heartfelt message to Rangers fans, and Windass reacted by replying “you’ll be back” to Thompson’s post.
Thompson is set to see his contract expire in less than 10 days, with the competition in the middle of the park at Rangers fierce. The likes of Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Scott Arfield, Greg Docherty and Jordan Rossiter are all vying for a place.
Thompson could return to loan side Livingston on a permanent basis with his contract expired, but there is yet to be any movement on his next club.
