Rangers announced that Ryan Hardie has left the club today.

The Auchenhowie product has signed for League One side Blackpool on a permanent basis.

It’s the smart move by Hardie, who simply isn’t going to play more than Alfredo Morelos or Jermain Defoe for Rangers this season.

The transfer reunites him with former Ibrox team-mate Jordan Thompson, and here’s how ex-Gers playmaker Josh Windass reacted to the deal.

Some Rangers fans might be sad to see Hardie leave.

He was, and still is, one of their own after climbing through the academy ranks and the supporters would’ve loved to see him score bags of goals in the senior side.

But the reality is that Gerrard has much better options and, as noted, the 22-year-old wouldn’t have had a kick by virtue of the Rangers manager’s other options.

The good news is that Hardie will need to be replaced, and his exit, combined with Kyle Lafferty’s inevitable departure, means that the Scottish giants probably will be adding another hitman to the squad between now and the end of the window.
