Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa has addressed the Spygate saga.
The football world has been buzzing for almost 24 hours now, having watched Marcelo Bielsa’s incredible press conference on Wednesday evening.
Leeds beat Derby County 2-0 at Elland Road on Friday night, but it was Bielsa’s orders before the game that have really sparked controversy.
Derby found a Leeds staff member attempting to spy on their training sessions the day before the game, with Bielsa admitting that he was responsible.
Some have called for heavy sanctions against Leeds for their actions, but Bielsa called an emergency press conference on Wednesday evening to discuss the matter.
What followed was Bielsa explaining that he has watched every team’s training sessions before Leeds faced them this season, with a staff of 20 people watching teams around the country.
Bielsa went into great depth about just how he beat Derby, and it wasn’t because of spying, but also acknowledged that he didn’t really think the spying would get such a huge reaction.
The comments have stunned many, with plenty of people hailing Bielsa not only for his methods but also his honesty on the matter, and one Championship player saw the funny side too.
Earlier this season, Leeds players swarmed around Wigan’s Josh Windass on a counter-attack, preventing him from breaking into the Leeds area.
Windass posted a photo of the situation, suggesting that it ‘all makes sense’ now, seemingly joking that the spying on Wigan had resulted in attempting to lock down Windass.
