Rangers, who appointed Liverpool legend Gerrard as their manager at the start of the season, sold Windass to Wigan in the Championship in England in the summer transfer window.
According to The Scottish Sun, the Latics had to pay Rangers a transfer fee of £2 million in order to secure the services of Windass.
The 24-year-old, who can operate as a midfielder or as a forward, has scored two goals and provided one assist in nine Championship starts for Wigan so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Wigan defender Burn, who joined the Latics on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window following a permanent move to the Premier League club, has suggested that Windass will have a point to prove to Rangers following his exit from the Ibrox club in the summer transfer window.

When asked if Windass had a point to prove, defender Burn told The Scottish Sun: “I think so. He’s come here and forced his way in. He’s doing a really good job and hopefully it will continue.
“Josh is a very good player. He was highly regarded at Rangers and he’s come here and done very well. It is good to come back and prove himself in the Championship.”
