Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have one of the most improved players in Scotland in Josh Windass.
Josh Windass scored his second hat-trick of the season on Sunday as Rangers won 5-3 at Hamilton.
In doing so, the 24-year-old reached 15 goals for the season in all competitions and, remarkably, 14 of those were scored when Graeme Murty took over in October.
Windass only scored once for Rangers under Pedro Caixinha this season and you could forgive the 47-year-old if he felt somewhat embarrassed over his former player’s stunning form.
In short, it’s probably linked to the fact that Caixinha often played him out wide in a decision which the Portuguese could and probably should regret.
Since being moved into the middle by Murty, Windass’s output has improved markedly and it’s clear that he flourishes from a number 10 role.
It probably didn’t help also that Caixinha publicly criticised the former Accrington Stanley man – signed for £60,000 by Mark Warburton in 2016 according to The Lancashire Evening Post – earlier in the season for his lack of defensive work, perhaps denting Windass’s confidence to some extent.
In any case, you have to wonder whether Windass could have saved Caixinha from the chop at Ibrox, or at the very least bought him more time.
He has since developed into the Gers’ best player and one who was simply poorly used by Murty’s predecessor.
