Rangers’ players have reacted well to Sunday’s Old Firm defeat in training, according to Ibrox midfielder Josh Windass.

Rangers went ahead twice against Celtic – courtesy of goals from Windass and Daniel Candeias – but were ultimately overcome by their arch rivals, who ended the game with 10 men.

However, speaking at a press conference, which was broadcast via Rangers’ official Youtube channel on Friday, Windass suggested the result has been put to bed, with focus switching to next month’s rematch at Hampden Park.

“Training’s been brilliant,” said Windass. “The lads have all come in lively. Obviously, that’s just one game. If we’d won, obviously, it would’ve brought us closer in the league but that wasn’t to be. Our aim is to win the Scottish Cup and we’ll be trying to do that.”

Asked how big a gap there now is between Rangers and Celtic, who are unbeaten in Old Firm encounters since the Gers’ return to top flight football last season, Windass – the newly-crowned Premiership player of the month – conceded: “There’s obviously still a gap – they’re nine/12 points in front I think, I’m not too sure. There’s clearly still a gap because we’ve not beaten them yet.

“But it’s got a lot closer and I think the games are a lot closer than they used to be.”

Positively, from a Rangers perspective, their last win against the Bhoys came in the Scottish Cup semi-finals two seasons ago, although they proceeded to lose in the final against Hibernian.

Graeme Murty’s side will hope to go one better this time out, however, especially with their league title hopes effectively over.
