Josh Windass has told Rangers’ official website that he was devastated to miss Rangers’ final game before the international break, and suggested that Pedro Caixinha urged him to play his natural game in the win over Dundee.

Windass had featured fairly regularly for the Gers in the weeks leading up to the break – but he was forced to miss the away win at Ross County, with the midfielder telling the club’s official website that he was suffering with a rib injury.

Josh Windass of Rangers looks dejected after the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on April 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

But he made up for lost time after coming on in the 54th minute of the Gers’ weekend win over Dundee, scoring the home side’s second goal in the 4-1 win.

And he suggested after the game that Caixinha tried not to complicate things too much before he came on the pitch, while also expressing his relief at getting back involved.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on August 12, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“It was disappointing to miss the game with bruised ribs last week – I was devastated about it actually, but I’ve obviously been training this week and thankfully I got back on today and got the goal,” he told the club’s official website.

“The manager said to me to just go out and do what I can do – he didn’t really give me any specific instructions – just to go out there and play with a bit of freedom.”

Windass will be hoping that the goal inspires a run of form which leaves Caixinha with absolutely no choice but to start him more often.

The former Accrington Stanley man looked bright at times during the opening weeks of the campaign, and the goal hints that he may be ready to back those bright moments up with some end product.
