Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers decided to sell Josh Windass soon after Steven Gerrard arrived.

Glasgow Rangers forward Josh Windass has told Open Goal that he doesn’t believe that Ibrox crowd have the patience to watch possession based football.

Windass left Rangers this summer, soon after Steven Gerrard arrived at Ibrox.

The forward decided to join Wigan Athletic, and his review of Rangers fans was not entirely positive.

Indeed, Windass feels that one of the reasons that Mark Warburton didn’t succeed for longer at Rangers is due to the Ibrox crowd.

Windass feels that Rangers fans didn’t have the patience to watch Warburton’s style of football.

And he said: “I thought he was brilliant. It was pure possession based. Looking back at it now, the fan base at Rangers… I don’t think they have the patience to watch their team play that style of football. They want tackles and full throttle football.

“You’d see Wes [Foderingham] play a pass out and if it went out of play you’d just hear groans.”

Warburton was at Rangers for two years, but lost his job after they failed to make much of an impact in the Scottish Premiership upon their return to top flight football.

Rangers have put up a much better fight this season, with Gerrard in charge, and currently sit just two points behind top of the table Celtic.
